Nevertheless, it can be seen all around us. From the 1950’s, African Americans have been the laughing stock of America. They have been enslaved, beaten, persecuted, mocked, oppressed, and hated. America treated the black population like animals. Wars raged and lives were lost, all for the sake of wanting normality. Because one person noticed that they were different colors, saw their prosperity, and became afraid. His fear than drove him to violence, by attempting to wipe them out. It is easy, being America to simply brush these historical events under the rug. Forgetting about them or minimizing them is very simple, especially for us who caused the pain. Many people think that these times are over, however, racism and oppression never truly vanished. All one has to do is look around society today. â€Å"Take employment or housing or health care or education or take imprisonment† (www.revcom.us/a/144/BNQ-en.html) for example, all of these areas are extremely oppressive to today’s minority group; African Americans. Simply reading the news, evidence of racism and its affects upon culture can be seen everywhere. For example, on September 18 a young black man by the name of Crawford, unjustly lost his life due to racism. Over the course of the past few months, I believe that I have learned a lot about my values, career choices, and my possible future. Both The Values Survey and the Rokeach Assessment helped me to understand what category my most important values were in. After Completing the Values Survey, I can conclude that some of my most important work values are family, friendship, helping others, creativity, and knowledge and truth. I agree with those values being my top five values. They also relate to the career that I am hoping to pursue. I want to be a special needs teacher, which is a job that revolves around helping, and caring for others. My values are very important to me, and family and friends are very important. Without them, we would not†¦show more content†¦Naviance, based off of my answers to certain questions, also said that I was an ENFJ. These letters stand for extrovert, intuitive, feeler, and judger. I do not completely agree with these results because for one, I am very shy. However, when I am with my close friends or family, I am not very shy at all. I am not sure how I feel about the intuitive part, because I think that there are some parts that are, and are not true. For example, I like to use my imagination, and consider new ideas. However, I do agree with the feeler part of my results because I want to do work that is meaningful, help others, make decisions based on my values, work in a supportive environment, and make efforts to understand others. I also partly agree with the judgers part. I like to do my work before relaxing. In naviance, the listed careers for me matched my aspirations because I want to be a special needs teacher.This is the job that I am currently very interested in pursuing. I want to help children learn, even if they need to be taught differently. However, one career did not. It was a funeral director, which is something I do not think I could do. Food Inc. Directed By Robert Kenner Essay Food Inc. directed by Robert Kenner gives viewers an eye opening experience to the politics of the industrial food manufacturing and processing system. Kenner is an award winning documentary director and producer since the 1970’s. He has perfected his craft in Food Inc. by allowing the viewer to better understand where processed food comes from and the corporations that own it all. The film takes a look into three of the most popular goods of corn, beef and pork. There becomes a better understanding of the corn industry and how almost all processed food can be traced back to the genetic modification of corn. Beef can be tied into this scenario with the newer practice of feeding cattle corn. The film takes some interest in explaining how corn fed cattle if possibly not the best decision for human health. Food Inc. puts great stress on the â€Å"deception† that food processing companies like to portray themselves as a wholesome farm grown company. When in reality, the system of manufacturing food has been so far removed from the wholesome farm scenario that it now run by computers from thousands of mile away. The corporations have also taken the time to deter consumers of being able to trace their food origins. This film hopes to bring the discussion back to consumers of really finding out what they are consuming in their bodies. The uniformity quest that all food companies like to accomplish has created mass amounts of environmental and health issues for everyone, especially in the United States. The economical side of the industrial processing has become such a tangles web. The film highlights the potential thoughts of previous food company CEO’s now being the political figures that decide their laws and regulations. There is no on. . shown in the film. You have to make the right choices financially as well as for your health but sometimes it can be hard. I think the family in the film had a great example. They can pay for the medication to treat the diabetes or they can eat healthy. In the end, they pay for the medications and live off of a dollar menu. This film was enjoyable to watch because of the presentation of the facts or information. It was not a complicated, scientific, political mess of information that someone in the general public wouldn’t be able to understand. It is filled with information that could be part of anyone’s everyday eating habits. Kenner does such a good job of giving a broad overview of the big topics and what touches everyday lives. There are scary facts and information in the film but, Kenner doesn’t make you feel completely shameful of yourself or food lifestyle.
